Collectivity started working with Shared Capital Cooperative (SCC) this past fall and we are thrilled to be supporting the cooperative economy by helping the SCC team grow their capacity.

Shared Capital Cooperative is a lending and investment fund for co-ops of all types and sizes. Unlike banks, SCC is cooperatively owned and managed by the co-ops that borrow from and invest in Shared Capital. So, borrowers and investors experience truly cooperative finance—generating grassroots community wealth while building social, environmental, economic and racial justice.

SCC offers co-op-friendly financing, providing loans to co-ops for 45 years and financing more than 800 cooperative projects. SCC boasts a wide variety of recent borrowers, all of whom are contributing to a more just economy through fair democratic practices, the creation of living wage jobs, and building community wealth by benefiting their members.

Some of these borrowers include Zapata Cooperative, an affordable housing co-op; House of Wands, a Queer Femme tattoo co-op; Meerkat Media a worker co-op media company; and Get it Right Educators Cooperative, a worker cooperative, tuition-free school.

SCC also offers the opportunity for individuals, cooperatives, impact investors, foundations, and others to invest in a just and cooperative economy by investing in Shared Capital. Depending on the investment length and style, you may receive between 1-5% in annual interest or dividends. Make your money work for you and build a generative economy for future generations.
